Under the expert tutelage of Chef Abby (and with some help from an attending parent or guardian), your child will mix batter and bake a white cake before covering it in vanilla butter cream that he/she makes from scratch.

The kids will then use their hands to apply the "sand" using a special blend of top secret -- but scrumptious! -- ingredients. Last but not least, your child will get creative and decorate the cake to their liking. Then take it home, where your aspiring baker's creation is sure to make an ocean-sized splash with the rest of the family!

NOTE: This special cooking class for kids is part of Colorado Springs' annual Cool Science Festival! So Chef Abby will be incorporating some STEM-related lessons along the way as we build our sand castle cakes! And be sure to visit us on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Cool Science Carnival Day on the University of Colorado--Colorado Springs (UCCS) campus. About The Chef

Abby Caballero has been baking ever since she was eight years old and received an Easy-Bake Oven for Christmas. She has always found joy in combining simple ingredients to make something special -- namely cakes, cookies, brownies and pies. After six years in software engineering, she elected to pursue her true passion and began baking professionally at a local culinary center, where she is still an assistant baker. Abby simultaneously launched her own business -- Sweet Pea Bakery -- where she creates custom wedding cakes. In doing so, she finds great joy producing a beautiful and delicious memory for a couple’s most important day. She is committed to making the highest-quality product for the Colorado Springs community, and is exceedingly meticulous.
